Where is your MTTP controller/charger installed? close to the battery banks or close to the panels??

If you are operating the panels at a higher voltage than the batteries, locating the regulator near to the batteries will reduce the voltage drop, and /or allow a smaller diameter of cable Near to the batteries also allows the regulator to read the battery voltage more accuracley, but it does not make much practical difference, if you have correctly sized wire and adjustable voltage points..

Velero, I think it is more a question of where you have a "good" location, i.e. protected from water but also ventilated to stay cool. And accessible if there's a display on it.
