Red face Backfeed Error

I am hoping for an answer to a backfeed error. I was recently attempting to charge my bank of deep cycle batteries with my Honda 2kva generator when my Freedom 20 inverter/charger experienced a backfeed and shut down. The charger is monitored by a Link 2000 monitor inside the boat. If the invert button was pressed on the monitor instead of the charge button could this have caused the Freedom to experience a backfeed when the Honda was started up to charge the batteries? As you may gather I am a "newbie" to many things electrical on boats. Thanks

Re: Backfeed Error

With that size charger on your Freedom 20, you could well be exceeding the output of the Honda. Try the Power Share feature on the Link:

Re: Backfeed Error

Hi Brian,

The Honda is connected to the shore power outlet on the boat via a shore power cable. The current is fed to a 240v to 110v step down transformer before it enters the charger.

Stu, thanks for the link.

Regards

Michael

Re: Backfeed Error

Hi Stu,

Thanks again. Very useful information. I should be able to figure out why it happened.

Cheers
