Balmar Pulley Size

Hi all,

The boat that I am in the process of buying needs the pulley changed on the "small" Balmar alternator. As it is, the belt sits too deeply (according to my mechanical surveyor). There are also signs that the alignment is off, so there is belt powder around (not good).

Do the pulleys come in different depths as well as diameters, or do you just shim the pulley for alignment? Sorry, I don't have the exact model number, as I don't own it yet.

Thanks, Bill

click click at your service! Available Alternator Pulleys I think you would shim the mounting bolts in someway. straight edge across them is a good way to check.

Re: Balmar Pulley Size

I think I have the same engine Perkins 154 and the same ? alternator Balmar 100 amp as you. As long as the belt is not bottoming out in the pulley groove you are OK.

I get the belt "dusting" if it is not at the top end of tight and a new belt. . Once it has slipped and dusted tightening it does not get it to stop slipping.

I just carry several spare top quality belts and change them if I get the belt dusting. Keep it tight and it drives OK.
