Hooking 110 power cord to shore power?
 

Has anyone had experience connecting a standard AC extension cord (some kind of pigtail adapter?) to a shore power system? Is there such a thing?

You can buy adapters for such, or make one yourself. I would install some sort of circuit protection as far "upstream" as possible, as the shore power probably has a 30A breaker and standard 110V wiring/cords/whatnot is usually rated at 10A or 15A (rarely 20A).

Yes, West Marine caries one for about 100US. I use ours all the time for accessories like polishers etcetera rather than running them the boats' system.
Keep it under lock and key though as they have a tendency to disappear.

Yes, we use one. Our little marina only supplies 115V/15A shore power and our boat has a 30A receptacle. Ours is a cylindrical adapter; I think it is a Marinco brand. You should be able to pick one up for around $50.

The OP is looking for just the opposite. He has standard 30amp shore power but needs an adaptor with the round 30amp male plug and the other end being a female that you plug a standard household plug into.

Can you? yes. Marinco makes all kinds of adapters. I use them for power tools at docks and in marinas all the time. Please don't use them for long-term "shore power" as the cords and connections simply don't measure up to the environment. Please please don't use them on my dock.

These are fine to run a power tool, shop vac, etc. They are not intended to power a boat for an extended period.

I heartily agree. We use this only for temporary solutions. Solar charges the battery and shore power for repairs.

Thanks for the responses but most of the answer-posts here have it backwards. I am sometimes docked at my in-laws house. They do not have a shorepower station on their dock and I want to hook up my shorepower system to their regular AC outlet.
