Husband @ I making leap from home to liveaboard 70' Tug. Oh, we're both 70. We need to put solar panels 2-cell battery packs @ need 6000W inverter- charger. Hearing troubles with Heart Inverters, is Xantrex Freedom the same or are they better and can they be stacked ?

70 foot tug!? Wow, that's gotta be some machine. Any pictures?

Sorry to hijack your thread, I'm sure someone more qualified will answer your question.

I have no pictures on our website @ this time, she's the ex-US Army tug; ST-2130. You can go on line to her name @ thepast owner posted pictures of her. His web-site is on Tripod. Hope that helps.

tugboat st-2130

There's the site. Pretty cool thing to live on.

You might want to repost your question with the topic in the title of the post. It might draw more viewers and a possible response.

Good luck!

Re: new @ this

We're looking for a way to have 110 @ 220 DC to start engine. We've heard only can use 300 amp inverter charger. Now can they be put in series or parelle(sp) to do this as off the grid in our moorage. We have a lot of electrical appliances; washer dryer refrigerator computer and such. We will use solar panels, and 2 banks of 2-volt batteries? Anyone ever tried this?

Re: new @ this

Dot, welcome.

I know you are new at the forum thing (according to your title), so since your first post wasn't really an introduction but more of a maintenance question, I'm going to move your message to a more appropriate section where you might get more answers to your question (Gear and Maintenance).

Also, this is a site for sailboats and sailing so I'm not certain you should expect a lot of answers concerning questions about a tugboat, although I suppose your questions are rather generic so who knows? Anyway, best of luck. It sounds like a grand adventure.
