Cracked screen on Furuno radar.

Looking at a boat with Furuno radar. Display screen is cracked and doesn't work. Seller claims it's fixable for a couple of hundred bucks. Thoughts?

Yes--tell the Seller to have the unit repaired and if it works you'll pay his asking price and the cost of the repair. Put the onus on him/her. Frankly, with such an important piece of gear, I would only buy used from an electronics vendor.

The fact is, many older units are quit functional and robust even though they do not have the latest and greatest features that many claim are must haves but most don't seem to know how to use. Our old Raymarine R 21xx does not have a lot of the new features but it does allow us to spot and track "fast movers" easily, before they are in sight or a threat, track rain squalls and storms and plot positions via ranges and bearings, set up guard-zones, etc. etc. etc.

It won't make or break the deal, and is the least of my worries on this fixer (which is why I'm far below his asking price)!
I was just wondering if screens are easily fixable as he claims, or if I'm going to hear: "Fix the screen?.....Might as well buy an new unit!":)

Merely fixing the screen may not result in a reliable functioning unit. And how, exactly, does one crack a screen anyway? That's a failure I've never heard of before.
