Can I use an old SRI Instruments Nav 5 transducer with a NSS8?

I guess a better question would be - would it transmit in NMEA0183....

I have an old as hell Nav 5 wind speed/direction transducer and was wondering if I could get it to work with my NSS8. The cable from it LOOKS like an NMEA0183 cable, but I trawled the manual and couldn't find any reference to NMEA0183 at all.

So I was wondering if anyone had used one of these with a modern chartplotter, and if so, did you have to change anything?

SRI are closed for another week and I'm trying to work out if I need to buy a new wind transducer for when my mast comes down in the next few weeks...
