New radio with wire for speaker, but speaker has jack

I'm replacing an old radio with a new one. My old radio was attached to a speaker via a speaker jack.

But my new radio has a single wire to attach to a speaker.

Do I need a new speaker or is there a way to wire my new radio to the old speaker?

Thanks

Need more information (is it a secret what model your new radio is?) but I would speculate that one side of the speaker connects to this wire you mention, the other to the radio's ground wire.

Re: New radio with wire for speaker, but speaker has jack

Yeah - sorry - I did not have many details before. The jack on my speaker looks like a RCA jack. See the attached fig. And my new radio is a West Marine VHF480 which has one very thin red wire to connect to an external speaker.

And the speaker is a Realistic Powerhorn 8 OHMS - see photo.

So my task is to try to get the radio to connect to the speaker. Anyone know how to do this?

Re: New radio with wire for speaker, but speaker has jack

From page 31 of the manual:
---------------------------------------------------
1. Connect the BLACK wire of the accessory cable to the GROUND WIRE of your external
speaker.
2. Connect the RED wire of the accessory cable to the POSITIVE (+) WIRE of your external
speaker.
3. Be certain all wire connections are secure and that all open wires are adequately
covered.
#NOTE: To extend the life of the radio, use waterproof tape to seal electrical connections.
4. Plug the accessory cable into the accessory cable pigtail on the back of your radio.
---------------------------------------------------

The ground wire of your external speaker is whatever is wired to the outside of the RCA plug. The + is wired to the tip/inside. Don't worry too much about polarity with a single speaker - it really doesn't matter unless the - was wired to an actual boat ground somewhere (highly unlikely)
