Shoot through
The last two I have installed have been through the hull. Just makes no sense to me to have to pull a boat, or cut a new hole in the bottom, to install a transducer, when they work just as well, shooting through. What you can do is to get things all hooked up, and put the transducer in a baggie of water. Then sit it in the bottom of the boat, and move it around, to make sure you have it in a good spot. They will not work if there is an air bubble in the glass, or any kind of a void. Also, don't do too good in cored hulls, from what I have read.
