Splice an Icom mic cable?

Hi all,
I have an old Icom mounted VHF in my boat, and my mic doesn't stretch far enough away from the diesel's chugging to make clear calls. No cable extensions are available for my model, so I was thinking of splicing in a length of shielded mic cable from a music shop (shielding the splice as well).

Has anyone ever tried this before or seen the inside of one of these mic cables to know if it's the standard hot/cold/ground wire I'm considering?

Knowing your VHF would help, but if this one have other mic functions (up/down, 16, LP/HP, etc ), you should expect some 6-8 wires on it. Regardless the cable, I've done some extensions before (3-4 feet) with success. Today, I'd recommend commandmic at cockpit for confort and
easy/clean installation. I'm not that good with wires anymore ......
