Automated Marine VHF Radio Checks

Here is an interesting article on an automated radio check service that SeaTow has started.

SeaTow Free Radio Check Service The list below the article shows the currently working locations.

I tried it from the Chesapeake today 10.3.10 on channel 27. I received a playback of my radio check transmission from the SeaTow Annapolis transponder, then the SeaTow identifier. It allows you the hear exactly what your transmission sounds like. Channel 28 must have been too far away, but I did hear it break squelch (I think).

Give it a try in your location and let the rest of us know how it works for you.

(I've posted this as part of another thread on this forum - but after trying the new system I think that it's worth its own thread. I have no connection to SeaTow.)

Wayne, Thanks for the follow up. I will try it this Thursday. Now I don't need to impose on others at Channel 16.

I'm assuming, by the smiley, that you're kidding, right?

Nice. 27 worked great for me, but then I can SEE the SEATOW antenna from my slip. Nothing on 28 - I'll try the next time I'm out on the Bay.

Great service and useful, you get a check of your incoming and outgoing performance in one message, you also get to listen to how intelligible you are and if you are positioning the microphone correctly.

My thanks to Wayne is sincere and is not kidding at all. Imposing others on the radio is just being sarcastic. Hope this clears the air.

The part I'd hoped you were joking about was doing radio checks on Ch. 16.
