Navico/Simrad Broadband Radar

I have Simrad network on board and looking to add either a Simrad 24'' radome 4 kW HD Digital Radar OR a 19'' radome Simrad Broadband Radar. I know the Broadband does not go as far as a traditional radar but my question is the following: How does the Broadband perform in rainy weather? Has anyone here used it in poor conditions? I don't really need to see 24 miles away just real well within 3 miles of my position but I need it to work even in the rain! Thanks

There is another consideration that you may be overlooking. IIRC, the broadband radar will not trigger RACONs. The RACON receivers can not detect the modulated signal the broadband RADAR uses, so you'll lose a valuable navigation aid.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I would like to clarify. The manufacturer states that the Broadband will see RACON. Do you have experience with the Broadband Unit? and have you witnessed it not detecting RACON? Thanks.

Sorry, my bad, it will not trigger a RACON... since the RACON's receiver doesn't recognize the modulated signal that the broadband RADAR uses.

BTW, there's a good feature comparison between Broadband and Pulsed RADAR located HERE.
