Hope you did a clone read and saved it first so that you always have the original info from your radio? Anyway, do a clone read first. On the Freq. range screen, on the Tx 1st row, change the higher edge frequency to 29700.000, hit enter, arrow down one and press the space bar and then enter. All other values for Tx 2nd thru 11th go blank. The radio is now opened up for transmit on all freqs 1.6Mhz to 29.7Mhz. This will allow programming of ham freqs in the 160 user channels. There is another way to use ham freqs however. On the left side of the Freq. range screen we will change the ITU 18M freq range for the ham bands. There is usually nothing in the 18M group on these radio's. On the ITU 18M row, change lower edge to 1800.000 and higher edge to 29700.000 Go to ITUsimp ch screen. On the 18-1 row, change the Freq to 1800.0, mode to LSB, comment to 160MTR. 18-2 row, 3500.0, LSB, 80MTR. ...etc...etc. I'm a cw op so I start at the bottom of the band. Adjust yours to your liking. Go the the Mode screen and enable all modes. Also, on the common screen, make sure Freq. program is set to RX/TX. Now, to dial around on a ham band, go to one of your group 18 channels, say 40MTR, press the CH/FREQ button so the display shows receive freq on top and transmit freq on bottom. Press the CE button and use the channel knob to change freq in 100hz steps. When your ready to transmit, just press and hold the RX button and both frequencies will be locked in and you can transmit. This process only works when you are on one of the ITU simplex group channels. Now if your a really good techie, you can take the channel control out and apart to file down the two detent wheels inside so that the knob rotates much more smoothly, more like a true VFO control. Enjoy!
