radar interchangability

I am looking into a chartplotter-radar system. I have been led to believe the newer broadband radar units will not work on the older plotters.I have not been able to verify this . or determine what works with what....even with in the same manufacture.....does anyone know the answer to this ? my first choice was a new but discontinued garmin 3205 or 3206 plotter ,, with the new smaller radar unit... but was told no go.. thanks

The Garmin 18HD radome works just fine with the 3205/3206 chartplotters. However, the Garmin 18HD is not a broadband radar. The only broadband radars are from NOrthstar and related companies IIRC.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
