Navico Wheel Pilot 5000
 
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Navico Wheel Pilot WP 5000? I have one that appears to be working but it is missing a couple of wires but it is impossible to figure some of the connections out if you are unable to know the pin/wire connections. The manual doesn't provide this information.

I'm a bit confused by this. Our old AP is a WP5000 but apart from the power cable it is all hard wired. Where is the connector you speak of ? Into the controller or the motor ?

Connections between the motor and the computer box that relays the relays the compass information to autopilot and so on. There is a compass and some controls made by sail comp with plugs as well as the capability to hook the unit up for wind steering. What parts are with your system, perhaps some of the parts I have aren't necessary?

I'm going to pull up the manual and see if it corresponds to what we have. If you are back on line today, hold tight I'll get it to in due course. I'm at my work right now, may not have the file here. Will check and let you know. If not here will post this evening my time. Failing that, I'll take some pics of the unit when on board Saturday.

Thanks TDW. I have a manual I downloaded from the Simrad website under discontinued products. Unfortunately it doesn't have any wiring diagrams so I can't tell what is suppose to go where. There is a Sail comp compass and the junction box is also made by Sailcomp. So in all I have the motor, the belts, the compass, the control head, the course display and the junction box. Some of the cables are there and one or two are missing, that's the mystery.

I'm afraid I am not going to be of much help to you. You obviously have either a non standard system or at least a more complicated one than ours, which consists of the WP5000 Navigation Receiver (shown in image 01) and the Drive Unit (shown in image 02). The NR is hardwired to the DU which then has a two core power lead with plug to a 12v outlet. We do not have the remote control (H5000) or the wind vane (WV3) .

In our case the internal compass has failed. Of course the parts are long since out of production so I've simply given up and ordered a new pilot from another manufacturer. I'm guessing that your compass has also failed at some time in the past and a new non Navico unit has been installed.

I fear you are on your own with this. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks TDW. This one is fine, the compass works it is simply (perhaps not that simple) that i don't have the schematics but the compass works as well as everything else, just the fact that the compass and juncstion box have been replaced by something else.

I pulled the WP5000 out of its box over the weekend and had a good look at the thing. What I had forgotten about, because I've never used it, is that there is an NMEA connector in the back of the Navigation Receiver which allows the thing to be wired up to a GPS unit. I'm guessing your odd wires are part of this.

Thanks TDW. I have it all figured out now and it's uo and working. There were some SailComp items included with the package which included a digital compas heading display, a Junction box and a separate compass. these units were independent og the Navico system but must have been hooked up to provide a digital steering display. Anyway with all that gear and the associated wires it took a while to sort out.
