Is it possible to use NOAA chart on a Garmin?

My goal is use the free NOAA charts in the GPSMAP 220. I understand that the format of the NOAA charts is not the same as the Garmin G- charts. I have found one site where the author detailed the construction of a flash based data card for the unit.

Well, I just ran across these "compatible" charts for I-Phone and Garmin.

Garmin GPS Map 220

Tried to find answer last night to your question re using NOAA charts with the
Map 220 without success. Personaly my feeling is that due to the nature of Garmin products I doubt it. Sorry unable to help.

googling "garmin file format" found this:
cGPSmapper - Your Tool For Creating Maps

Note on the left side about half way down "Marine Maps"
From the limited reading I have done, it does appear that a group of individuals have reverse engineered Garmin's map formats and now are able to generated and load their own maps into Garmin units. I don't know if this applies to g chart modules or newer Garmin units.
