Garmin GPSMAP 220

Greetings,
I have acquired a Garmin GPSMAP model 220 chartplotter. I know it takes Garmin G chart cards. Does anyone know if there is a blank data card that will fit this unit?

This might help:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=6416

The manual should have that info.

Thanks Stu, but I have already been there. I'm starting to think that this unit only accepts pre-programmed cards. What I was hoping for was the ability to use the free charts at NOAA, some software to convert those charts to what ever format the 220 uses and a flash based card to hold the converted charts.

I downloaded all the charts at NOAA and also downloaded a program called OPENCPN. All the charts take about 5.58 gigs of disk storage which is doable in modern flash cards. Seems to be a number of folks not willing to toss a working chart plotter overboard and buy new.

Regards
Jerry

Jerry, the whole of Garmin is proprietary. There are no other known charts that can be used on their equipment. Your second post raised a completely different issue than your original question. The only way to utilize your free charts, whether they be for OpenCPN, Sea Clear II, or any of the other freely available navigation software is on your computer.

Page 58 of the manual discusses User Programmable data cards.

To be able to use the free charting software and then use your Garmin, investigate GPS Babel, which can read and translate between different platforms.

Stu, thanks for the page number. I missed that when I looked over the manual.
My goal is use the free NOAA charts in the GPSMAP 220. I understand that the format of the NOAA charts is not the same as the Garmin G- charts. I have found one site where the author detailed the construction of a flash based data card for the unit.

I am looking to purchase a GPS Map 220 to replace the one we have
on our boat. The reason for this is the one on our boat operates intermittently.

If your GPS is is in working condition I would be interested in purchasing it.

Await your reply.
Thanks

Merlin

Elect problem

Could it be a bad cord?

Garmin GPS Map 220

Still having trouble and not sure if you got my previous messages.
It is not a bad cord.
We wish to buy a used working unit.
If you decide to sell your unit please advise.

Many thanks.
Merlin

Melin. I'm not sure if I want to sell the unit. Its the only chart plotter I have and to replace it would take several hundred dollars. It is practically brand new in that it shows no use at all except for a small scratch on hte mounting bracket. I don't have the Gramin antenna for it.
