Standard Horizon GX1500S VHF Radio and Weather Alerts

Anybody out there have a Standard Horizon Quest-X GX1500S VHF and can confirm something for me? The User's Manual appears to indicate that the only time the weather alert function works is if you're scanning and a weather channel is tagged for scanning. Is that true? I like this radio in all other respects, but this "feature," if true, could be a show-stopper.

Nobody around here has one of these, eh? That's kind of surprising. They were one of the top-rated VHF radios for a while.

The GX1500S weather alert feature is enabled when the WX channel is added to the SCAN memory and the radio is scanning. The GX1600 has been updated to allow the WX to be active even when the radio is not scanning.

Hi Jason and thanks for the follow-up.

Your colleague, Scott Iverson, answered the question for me in email yesterday. I got involved in another VHF radio thread, Best VHF radio? and kind of forgot about this one.

Then the same question came up about the Matrix GX2000 and GX2100 radios in that other thread. I just got off the phone with Scott, who cleared it up.

I have to say I'm impressed with Standard Horizon's response times to customer inquiries
