Garmin 3206 and VHF interferance?

I have a Garmin chartplotter and suspected a radio problem. It seemed the radio worked fine sometimes and then would have a continuous static sound, like you'd get from an open mic. Well, yesterday I turned on the auto-helm then the gps and the sound appeared....I turned off the gps and it dissappeared. So, it appears my gps is the cause. I do have a 'Command Mic" right next to the plotter....It's a perfect setup. What can I do to fix this?

If I turn down the squelch on the main radio, the static does go away but I won't have much of the radios potential then

Ahhh....maybe. Hoping for a way to deal with it sans holes and patches and inconvenience. It's pretty cool as is....but that may be my only choice.
