Wheel Autopilot or Underdeck unit?

Hi,
On my 19686 Freedom 36 my old ST6000 autopilot Course Computer and ST7000 Control head got busted so I need new ones. My linear direct drive, fluxgate compass and rudder reference unit are all working well. I have an option of buying little cheaper complete wheel pilot or buying new course computer and control head.

Are wheel pilots reliable and good for 36ft + sailboats with 9000+ LBS displacement? I am not doing any heavy offshore sailing in following winds but like to have a functioning autopilot.

wheel pilots could be at their limit with a 36' boat...plus the aggravation of installation, belts and such..

I would spring for the gear that keeps your underdeck gear...

Having used both in recent times and given size of your vessel then definitely go underdeck. Not knowing your displacement makes it slightly difficult but the Raymarine wheel pilot on our 34'er Raven was pretty much at its limit. The underdeck Raymarine on our new girl (41') is well within its limits and much quieter in operation.
