Updating Garmin 545s software

I recently downloaded updated software version for Garmin 545s onto an SD card on my laptop.

The Garmin unit does not seem to recognize the card but the charts go blank when card is inserted like it is trying to read charts and not software.

I would appreciate help with anyone experienced in upgrading garmin software with SD card.

I think you might have to prepare that SD card in the Garmin before putting the software update on it. Did you let the downloaded Garmin software transfer the file to the SD?

I am beginning to think I need to get a new blank sd card and put it in the Garmin unit to format the SD card or create a file. Since I downloaded the file from Garmin, I would think their format would match the hardware.

I did try reformatting the SD card which erases all files and try inserting the SD in the Garmin and then reloading the software but that also did not work.
