Which GPS for NASA AIS radar input?

Hi, I have bought the NASA AIS radar thing and I need to supply it with a GPS
input. Has anyone done it? I do not have a suitable GPS so I was hoping to buy
a cheap hand held GPS that has the NMEA (RMC) output. Just wondering which make / model would do the job. Any advice or guidance welcome!

I was hoping a Garmin Geko, or Etrex would be suitable?

John

ps I also need to supply a new VHF with a GPS input so hopefully I can do both
with the same GPS?

Re: Which GPS for NASA AIS radar input?

....... just a thought... I have a BU 353 GPS receiver that I can use with my laptop. It has a USB connection. Is it possible to cut off the USB connector and wire it into the NASA AIS radar? I believe the BU 353 needs 5V which I can do but I have no idea which wires do what and I cannot find a pinout for this model.
.... or is there a better way?
