AIS Alarm

I am using CPN for navigation and would like to include AIS with the system. But I do not alway leave my laptop turned on during long passages to save on electrical usage.

Is there anyway I can set up an alarm to the AIS system that would be activated if an AIS signal would be received by my antenna, while my laptop is turned off?

Thanks, for any info.

Re: AIS Alarm

None that I know of, but wouldn't it be easier to add a VHF with a built in AIS such as a Standard Horizon Matrix GX2000? The cost is only a around $250 and seems to be a heck of a lot easier.

Re: AIS Alarm

Sitex makes a stand alone AIS with no need for a computer, which draws far less amperage than a computer. I understand there are other companies which also do so.
