Replacing wind instruments (Tacktick differences and Signet)

Hi guys,
I'm presented with a decision, and I'm looking for your opinions.

The quick questions...
Q1) Does anyone have experience with the Signet Marine SmartPak system? Or Signmet Marine wind display SL254?

Q2) Does anyone know what the difference is between the Raymarine Tacktick T033 and T112 wind display units?

Q3) What are your recommendations, given my needs below...

Some background:
I bought my Contessa 26 knowing that the Signet Marine depth&log gauge and transducers were not functioning. The Signet Marine wind system was, except for the LCD panel was broken, wind speeds above 35knots caused an error and the wind speed would blink from correct to "-E-" every 2 seconds. It turns out both display units are fried, LCD panels are no longer made, and the depth transducer is not compatible with current models and an integrated circuit in the wind gauge is no longer available.

My needs & wants:
1) I 'need' wind instrumentation.
2) I 'need' to *NOT* install a wire up the mast. (I can reuse the current wind instrument, or use wireless, but I will not be installing another cable in the mast.)
3) I 'want' speed & depth, but in Lake Ontario, depth isn't that important around here and with GPS is sufficient for speed. So technically this can wait.
4) I 'want' to *not* do wiring.

My options:
Option 1) Pick up the Signet Marine SmartPak system, with wind sensor gauge. This gets me Wind (using my existing wiring), speed (existing paddle wheel), depth (with new transducer). But I think I will lose the 360-degree visual wind gauge which I like for showing new helmsmen.

They have been generous enough to offer me some discounts so I think the total price will be around $1,300usd+tax+shipping.

Option 2) Raymarine Tacktick T033 pack for wind only. This gets me a single wind gauge, but does not get me speed or depth. Requires 12V wiring which is ok, but I don't have to run anything up the mast. I would then have to add to the system later...

Cost should be around $720cad+tax

Option 3) Raymarine Tacktick T101 (T112 display) for wind only. This gets me a single gauge that is solar powered. I don't know how this is different, display-wise, from a T033. Requires zero wiring but still doesn't get me speed/depth this year and must add it later.

Cost is around $1300+tax

Option 4) The least expensive option... forget about all of the above and buy a Signet Marine wind display for $436usd+tax+shipping. Replace everything at a later date when I have a larger budget for electronics.

Right now, I'm leaning towards Option 2) because it has graphical 360-degree display, tells me AWS/AWA and can accept GPS input for TWS/TWA which is technically all I *need*. Any reason not to go with the T033?

Signet is still in business and can supply new LCD displays for the old units if your only real issue is a bleeding out LCD (common).. they are about $50-60.

Interesting to know why your depth/log have failed.. these tend to be pretty robust units and not much goes wrong. I have a knotmeter transducer you're welcome to for the price of shipping.

The tacktick stuff is interesting, mostly for the wireless and solar powered aspect... and the prices are coming down...

I appreciate your offer of the paddle-wheel transducer but the transducers appear to be functioning, it's just the instruments that are not.

Yes, I know Signet is still in business. They have both my gauges and did a free assessment; They gave me a fuller verbal explanation but also this in e-mail,
Quote:
"The report on your MK151 depth and speed unit came back as unrepairable due to the fact we have no good LCD displays and the unit is designed to use a 160khz depth transducer which are not available as of last year"
"The report on your MK154 wind instrument came back that you have a bad IC which is no longer in production. This effects the wind speed function but nit the wind point which is functioning."
I'm not sure the Tacktick system will have the longevity of the Signet Marine gauges. Everyone that I've talked to that has heard of Signet says something about them being robust... but they are big, chunky and dated. Signet or Tacktick... hmm...

difference between the tactic are that 1 has a solar powered gage and the other needs 12V power to it, both have a solar powered transducer

The Tacktick guide for the T112 has a list of displayable functions (assuming you hook up the necessary inputs). The T033 doesn't mention a thing about functions. I was assuming there were be differences there given the price difference.
