Multi-purpose digital screen?

I currently use a lap-top with Max-Sea for navigation, with an older Raytheon GPS, old Black and White Raytheon 24" radar.

There is pressure on board for a TV. Does anyone know if there is a digital screen which can function alternately as a TV/DVD screen and a radar/AIS/Autopilot display screen? If so, can you please suggest appropriate components to accomplish all of this?

Thanks, Steve

Re: Multi-purpose digital screen?

Steve, I would suggest that any digital monitor can function as a radar, etc. display screen. But you're putting the horse before the cart. Pretty much every radar, etc. is going to have specifications as to what displays it can use. If your electronics can't use a standard monitor, you'll just have to buy new electronics.

See what your eleectronics require, and if they can't use a generic display, see what new electronics that can use one are going to cost. (No, I don't know brands or models on that.)

The alternative is to just buy a flat-screen TV, or a USB stick that allows you to use your laptop as a TV. Then you don't have to miss the movies just because some fool is trying to navigate.
