Radar from stern to Mast help
 

Recently bought a 04 Catalina 36 MKII that had Raymarine dome mounted on the stern. Bought a mast mount and cable from WM, mounted everything and now find the cable does not connect to my SL70 RC Plus series Radar/Chartplotter. The guy at the boatyard where the work is being done called Raymarine and they said since the dome and chartplotter is discontinued the cable for connection is not available. Already have $$ invested, never dreamed you could not get wire to run the mast. Shame on Raymarine. It is not that old. Any ideas around this or has anyone else run into this.

Why not splice the original cable - the one that does have a connector and was used to on the stern mount - into the new cable that goes up the mast? Not sure is the wqires in the two cables are different in some way. But I've cut radar cables that run down the mast and joined the two ends using a junction box.

Cable is available and quite cheap by US standards. Just google it

Yes, I am sure I can get the cable when I identify what is needed. However I will have to splice the existing plugs in to be able to use it. Wasn't sure if splicing works really well. Thought I had read at some time to never splice the radar wire or cable.

You can buy the cable at different lengths 5,10,15,30 meters with end fittings in place. yes you can splice the cable, I had to due to an accident cutting the cable and being a poor cruiser I shortened it by 2 meters and rejoined the cable about 6"from the arays long thin strip plug, this kept the join inside the aray and out or the weather.
