This 'List' is too dynamic..people come and go. And with recent Xmas..Ipads are probably more abundant with individuals looking for or have already just recently have some experience with the latest (Nav) apps....
I just got my iPad recently so I haven't actually used it on the boat yet. I have downloaded a few navigation apps though- iNavX, Navionics, and EarthNC Marine Charts. I like EarthNC the best: EarthNC.
I use iNavx and Navionics extensively. iNavX is by far the best, IMO, with amazing customer support. iRegatta is also quite good and while oriented to racing, is useful to the cruiser ( specifically the layline feature)
Charts & Tides. It's a basic nav app, but great for backup. Also has Active Captain cruising database offline, which is an incredible resource. Better than their website, in my opinion, as you see an actual chart location and approach for each point of interest.
I use an iPad 1 with a bad elf gps unit and iSailor app or navionics . Checked it out against some bouys and a mates expensive gps. I was averaging 5 to 10 feet accuracy . Good enough for me
I use Motion X GPS...the app developer set records on the Transpac race TWICE using it. If it gets them to Hawaii in record time using it exclusively for the navigation, thats good enough for me to get to Catalina and back.
Consider PolarView NS for your computer and PolarView MX for your iPad. The cost of the software is minimal and all NOAA charts for the US can downloaded for free using the program's chart manager. If you have other electronic charts they can be easily imported.
I got my New IPad today. I downloaded the Garmin Bluechart Mobile App. The App is free but you have to buy the charts. Several different packages available. I have been playing with it and I am very happy with it. Beautiful graphics, Acctive Captain interface, tides, currents and weather. Check it out.
