I just installed refridgeration in my ice box

Just finished my little project. I installed a NovaKool compressor and freezer / cold plate in my existing ice box on my Irwin Citation 34.

Description and pictures here:

Re: I just installed refridgeration in my ice box

Nice job. I did a similar installation on my previous boat. With a 145 watt Kyocera panel and two t-105s I could be energy independent for months as longs as I didn't have more than about 3 really cloudy days in a row.

Nice job. Mind if I ask what the parts cost? I just had a tech clear moisture out of my fridge lines and don't have the bill yet. Hoping it wouldn't have been more cost effective to just replace it all.

Re: I just installed refridgeration in my ice box

Thanks for the kind words.

It cost just under $1,000 (one Boat Buck - lol)

And right now CDN $ and US $ is very close.

Yea, I think I know your point. I called the tech because it would not chill during spring commissioning. Late last season, it would cycle to cold, then fully defrost, then cold again.

He ran nitrogen through the system and let it stand for hours. Then purged it and did it again. Then replaced the drier and recharged the sys.

I was working well last weekend, but I haven't seen the bill yet. He left the troubleshooting page from Frigoboat that I believe suggested the procedure, but I didn't study it.

If it works, I'm fine, as long as it didn't cost me near what a new system would have. But I've been schooled that this fix could be very temporary.

I would only hope he used a vacuum pump and charged per mfg's requirement. Which in most of these units is only ounces. what's the model numbers I'll look it up Minn. But if it's working good!

Re: I just installed refridgeration in my ice box

Thanks Denise. Had to leave the boat for a Mothers Day trip so can't get the model, other than knowing its a Frigoboat. If it acts up when I get back, I'll drop a PM.
