Better speed under power for E-32

our E-32 equipped with factory 2qm20 engine only allows us to cruise at 4knots in calm conditions. I worked on a Morgan 36 with the same engine that the owner claims will do 6 knots in calm conditions.

Does anyone know if I could change the prop to get better speed without makeing the engine work harder and or giving up good fuel consumpsion?

We motor as little as possible but at times it would be nice to have better speed.

Mario,
Certainly you could change your prop and likely get more thrust out of your engine, within limits.
For starters, what prop is on your E32 now? 2 blade or 3? Folder or fixed?

Simply swapping in a 3 blade prop of similar size might just do the trick, if you have a 2 blade prop now.

Holy cow Mario, I get at least 6 knot under power with a 16-12 two-blade prop, same boat, same engine. Are you towing a barge or something?

4 knots is ridiculously slow for a well propped 32 footer.. is everything clean? Are you getting up to your max rpm?

So, to ask the question that Mario will likely ask next...how do you pick out an appropraite 3-blade prop?

There are prop sizing estimators on-line, and any supplier will be happy to make some recommendations based on displacement, HP, boat type and RPM.

Sounds like the beginning of an expensive race...

According to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, "Keeping up with the Joneses" is an idiom in many parts of the English speaking world referring to the comparison to one's neighbor as a benchmark for social caste or the accumulation of material goods. "Keeping up with the Joneses" simply means to strive to match one's neighbors in spending and in social standing

Thanks all , We will be pulling the boat when we get to Annapolis and I will see what prop we have. I was going with what the PO said when he told us the prop was new and what was best for the boat. It was painted with an anti foul clear coating and looked new so I never ? it untill I was told that others with the same engine was getting better speed.
Ritchard do you know what you fuel consumption per hour/ mile is?

Mario, running it responsibly, maybe 6 kt in reasonable conditions, I think I get about 1/2 US gallon an hour. This is the kind of consumption I got when brining the boat home from Cleveland to Toronto, two summers ago.
