prop problems

I own an Ericson 32 that had a two blade prop and over the winter I changed it for a 3 blade and now I only get max RPM's in Neutral and Reverse. In forward I only get just a little more than idle RPM's any idea what my problem might be? Thanks

it sounds like you are significantly over pitched.is the pitch of the new three blade prop what the manufacturer suggests for running a three blade in your boat with your engine or are you "experimenting" ?

Re: prop problems

As Scotty mentioned, the pitch needs some serious adjustment. Contact your local prop shop and give them the specs on the prop and the boat. They can tell you what pitch you will need and you will have to remove the prop and get it to them. Chuck

Re: prop problems

thank you for your replies at this point I was just experimenting, better to go back to the 2 blade I guess than to run the 3 blade. Thanks again.

Re: prop problems

There should be no problem running a 3 blade prop.. it will run much smoother and will have more thrust than the two blade (although more drag under sail) It just needs to be properly pitched. Did you pick the prop up in a bargain bin or have it spec'd for your boat and engine?

There are several prop sizing tools on line, a little time there will give you some basic starting data.

I recommend the Campbell sailor prop as a good compromise between pricey folder/feathering props and the michigan wheels.
