Although "under power" at the time, I think this qualifies as "extreme sailing"

Extreme demonstration of foolishness or extreme demonstration of the yachts seaworthiness? Either way; very impressive

I would hate to imagine what would have happened if the engine quit...

Once you start out, you're committed. Actually, you should be committed for even starting out. Not a good idea to leave the companionway wide open in that kind of water either. At least slide the hatch closed in case green water comes over the bow...
