Jacksonville a boater friendly city

We just spent our 72 free hours of docking split between Jacksonville Municipal Marina and Jacksonville Landing. We were delighted with this detour from the ICW. The Municipal Marina has automated registration if you want electric. Our 30amp hookup cost $8.56 at night. The only drawback to this dock is the current in the St. Johns River on the ebb will push the boat hard against the dock and make departure difficult.

After one night on at the municipal dock, we decided to move up river a few hundred yards just beyond the lift bridge to Jacksonville landing.

The are many restaurants and stores located here. Several banks are nearby also.

If you are looking for a pleasant, affordable side trip from the ICW, put Jacksonville on your list.

Definitely have to time the tides and current though. I stayed across the river at the River City Brewery docks (friends on that side of the river). Good mass transit system also. Bit of a walk, but there's some nice shops and restaurants to the east.
