The State of Florida is once again reviewing their anchoring laws and regulations. Whether you live in Florida, cruise there now or just want to be sure you will be able to someday, now is a critical time to share your views on this topic with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Please click on the link below to take FWC's survey. We recognize it's long, but we would like to make sure that active, responsible cruising boaters help the state understand what works and what does not when it comes to anchoring laws in the Sunshine State. The deadline for the survey is October 9, 2016

Also, visit Anchoring & Mooring for additional information and updates.

Background:

In 2009, the Florida Legislature stopped local governments from placing inconsistent and often onerous restrictions on anchoring. In addition, 5 local areas were allowed to create local anchoring ordinances to test policies that promote public access, enhance navigational safety, protect maritime infrastructure and the environment, and deter improperly stored, abandoned, or derelict vessels.

Because these 5 local ordinances will expire July 1st, 2017 we expect the Florida legislature to again look at anchoring restrictions. If cruising in Florida is in your boating plans, it is important to take the FWC survey to register your views on anchoring restrictions and help influence how the cruising public is treated throughout Floida.
