Big Bend

Hi all, I'm in Carrabelle going to do first open water and over night to Cedar Key then to Ruskin. Any comment for novice sailor on 22 catalina would be helpful. Picking my weather window carefully and looks like about 16hrs for first leg. Have had some good info from experienced sailors but more is better. Thanks, Ian

Re: Big Bend

Maybe plan departure time for your overnighter that you arrive
with a few hours daylight before and after planned arrival time,
insuring daylight if actual arrival is earlier or later than expected.
(Usually takes longer than planned because you don't arrive...until
you arrive. Great I'm in the bay now where's the anchorage, marina?
Also if single handed stage food, charts, binoculars, flashlight(need
red for night vision) radio etc. nearby and handy before departing.
Then enjoy sail especially stars/night sky if clear night.
...and no peeing over the rail for safety sake!

Re: Big Bend

This guy can easily go over the bar south of Alligator point instead of going waaaay out around marker 26 (or is it 24?). Then on to St Marks which I recc'd. Go up river to the town and relax. Shell Point is another option but no amenities there and pvt markers. He can also do Keaton Beach that does have a restaurant. Steinhatchee is a good deep water stop but beware of shallows around the channel. I've never done Suwanee or Horseshoe Beach but he could. Cedar Key is a fun place but almost hostile to sailors with no facilities but he can anchor out.
He won't see much traffic out there.
