The New Sailrite Portable Sewing Machine

Sailrite claims their new machine is the only portable, zigzag/straight stitch, walking foot sewing machine in the world. The LSZ-1 has a powerful 1.5 amp motor with cogged belt capable of sewing up to 8 layers of 9.25 oz. canvas or 8 oz Dacron. Sailrite's slogan is "Self-Reliance Under Sail", and many cruisers and offshore racers will appreciate the thought of building or repairing heavy sails or canvas in remote locations.

An unusually wide 19mm-powered walking foot on the LSZ-1 insures positive contact between the fabric, feed dog and walking foot. The result is consistent stitch length and feeding, Other benefits are the ability to sew sticky materials such as vinyl dodger windows and to walk over uneven hems and from thick materials to thin.

In addition, the LSZ-1 is capable of an unusually long 6mm-stitch length. It has a needle positioning lever, variable width zigzag, a "super" reverse and built-in welting tunnel. While the LSZ-1 is available with either 110 volt or 220 volt motors, an optional hand crank guarantees that repairs can be made even without electricity.

While the LSZ-1 is portable, the 42-pound weight will not go unnoticed when lugging the machine out of a locker. Sailrite claims the weight keeps the machine put for handling large projects.

The Sailrite LSZ-1 is sold directly by the manufacturer at $699 and currently features a 2-year part warranty and free ground delivery.
