Addtional sheave/block at masthead?

I have a fixed boom top lift. I'd like to change it out to a "real" top lift. What are the options to adding a block at the MH ? My current housing has cross-head/dual wire sheaves and I don;t believe I'd like (the expense) to change that out.

Add a saddle bracket and loop for hanging a shackled block?? THere *may* be a tabbed bracket existing for the one on now...simply add a block to it?
I'd like the option to use the lift to haul up the top of a boom tent and hold the boom as a crane jib when lifting heavy items aboard; potentially to 350#s ie; motor r/r?, dink lift.

TIA,
Paul

Are your halyards external now? ie does the main cross both sheaves and come down the front of the mast and the jib the opposite? If so you could free up a sheave for a TL by making at least the jib halyard internal..

Otherwise if you've got a web or a strap that could take a block that should be fine. If you intend to hoist such loads, though, your topping lift will have to be beefier than normal.

Another alternative adjustment is to put a short 3-4 part tackle on the last few feet of the fixed TL and adjust its length there, at the boom end.. the bitter end could be run along the boom so as to be reachable from the boat at all times.

Faster;
Yes... external, wire-to-rope, crossing the head/opposing. TL probably 3/16 s.s. vinyl covered cable. Good idea for the last few feet! Saves me from either dropping or climbing. Thanks :D

What faster has suggested is what I have. It's a smart setup an saves a line going all the way up and back down the mast.

On the other hand, a traditional topping lift makes a great spare mainsail halyard if you loose the first one.
