Re: Interior Lighting Upgrades

Alpenglo rocks! We've had our red/white for 4 years, it draws 1/2 amp on low and 1 amp on high and does the entire cabin. That's about the same power draw as an equivalent LED light and it has a pretty, warm color. Recently needed a replacement bulb ($7) (compare to the price of LED) and their customer service was superb! Overhead Lights Information

Re: Interior Lighting Upgrades

Here is a link to a video I made on converting florescent lights to LED. If you get the warm white bulbs it is hard to tell the difference. hope the video proves useful for someone.

Re: Interior Lighting Upgrades

Met a guy on Anything Sailing selling LEDs...Marine LEDs Canada

I liked the color of all the 2 pin style LEDs he sent me.
The rope light style LEDs were a bit green but I used correction gel for motion picture lighting to remove the green.

good price 3 years ago, not sure what's up today

Re: Interior Lighting Upgrades

FWIW, I have had a good experience with MarineBeam, so they should be a good choice for vendor in your case. Good prices, friendly advice. There are cheaper LEDs out there - I tried and returned a few - but now I just go to MB first.

(Disclaimer - not associated with MarineBeam in any way, just a satisfied customer)

Re: Interior Lighting Upgrades

Sorry -don't have a link for lopolights as builder installed. Asked broker he said contact EuroMarine in Newport R.I. as they are importer. Have red/white inside, under hard dodger and in hard bimini. Would never not put red/white LED in ANY light fixture in any boat that is actually sailed. You sound like a sailor and with the long service life and low energy consumption the extra bucks is worth it IMHO. Silly to spend your time and money and not do it right if you're going to hang on to the boat.

Re: Interior Lighting Upgrades

Alpenglows have been on the boat since the early 90s.

Originally had the CFLs. Reworked ballasts by Alpenglow which greatly minimized the normal Radio Frequency Interference of CFL on the HAM/SSB radios.

Recently sent all of the lights to Alpenglow to be upgraded to LEDs. Some of the CFLs were already red/white but had all them upgraded to Red/White LEDs.

Quality/color of the light is excellent.

Kudos to Alpenglow for offering an upgrade rather then toss/ebay the CFLs.

Re: Interior Lighting Upgrades

Dang it, Eherliy! Got the switches and they are two gnats' too big. Nice try, though.

Back to google search. Hubby says I'm obsessed and should give up. I figure if a floor lamp in Fairfield Inn can have a teeeny rocker switch built into the 3/8" tubing, I can find something that'll work for our fixtures.
