Yanmar 3gm30f secondary filter

I want to replace the secondary fuel filter on our yanmar 3gm30f.

I am stuck on how to unscrew the box. Are there any good tips and tricks or do I really need to take of the hoses to be able to use a wrench

The ring with the steps on it is threaded. Just turn with a wrench or large pair of pliers and the bowl will come off. Make sure you have an O-ring as well as a new filter element to put in.

Problem is there is no space for a wrench. Should I start by loosening the screw on the top ?

Re: Yanmar 3gm30f secondary filter

I use large jaw channel lock pliers and am able to loosen the flange nut without removing the hoses. You will need to bleed the air out by adding fuel to the filter sump and pumping fuel in with the air bleed screw on top open. Careful to not strip and overtighten the bleed screw. Priming the air out is slow using the hand pump lever on the fuel pump is slow so I added a hand squeeze bulb in the fuel line, which makes it quick and easy.

Can also put a flat screw driver against a nub on the screw thread and tap lightly.

Channel locks, or use some grippy rubber and really lay your paws to it....

No, you don't have to loosen the screws.

Re: Yanmar 3gm30f secondary filter

I have found that it helps to squirt some PB Blaster on the ring and let it soak in for a few minutes and then use the flat head screw driver / tapping lightly method to loosen the ring.

Hey, how are you going to bleed with those nice covers over the ends of the hose clamps?!
