Pearson 26 keel bolts

I am having my keel bolts redone. The boat yard I am using could only get them by special order. So they ended up with 75 instead of just the 8 they needed. These are 5/8 galvanized bolts, washers, and nuts. They are looking for any other Pearson 26 owners who might need them. They are only seeking to get their cost back. $11 for the bolt, washer, and nut or $88 for 8 of them, plus shipping.

These are truly hard to find, as I have looked. It is easy to find plain steel or stainless (which will react and wallow out your iron keel) versions, galvanized is tough to find.

If you want any of the remaining 67 at $11 per bolt, washer, and nut contact Jenny or Paul at Bay Marine Boat Works, 151 5th Street, Biloxi, MS 39530 tel. (228) 432-2992 fax (228) 432-2993.

Re: Pearson 26 keel bolts

Do you know the length of the bolts? I've got a Ranger 26 that has a similar flanged keel setup using 5/8 bolts. The bolts would likely fit if the length is close.

Curious, though. When I replaced a few of the original bolts with standard steel bolts the nuts from the old and new would fit on both bolts. This made me think that the original bolts were zinc coated, not galvanized. I was under the impression that galvanized threads aren't compatible with zinc or steel threads.
So my thought was that zinc coated bolts might have been the original setup. After all, the builders probably didn't think the boats would still be around 40 years later.

But anyway, if you know the length let me know.
Thanks

Galvanizing is zinc plating. Hot dipped galvanize is coated by submerging the steel part in molten zinc. So both methods coat steel or other metals with zinc.

Tom: I have too few posts to respond to your pm. However, if you want bolts
I am not the seller, the seller are Paul and Jenny, the owners of Bay Marine boatyard. Just give them a call. At the number in the first post. They are good folks, who ended up with too many bolts as a result of the order they had to place to get the ones needed for work on my Pearson 26. Thanks, Mark

Re: Pearson 26 keel bolts

Did you end up replacing them? I'm in the same situation and was wondering how much this is going to run me for someone to do the work.
