Hi Denise,
I ended up discussing as well with my local sailing shop and the owner suggested the following. I inserted two stainless steel clevis pins on the gear at the right location as stoppers and glued with epoxy glues. though not necessarily the recommended part, it works quite well as a stopper. I tested over the week-end it some pretty strong winds and it worked quite well. When I take out of the water in the fall, I will look at having some blocks welded, but this is a good start. I have attached an image.
Thank-you Denise for your initial response and everyone's comments and feedback,

Enjoy the rest of your season everyone,

Gary
