Bottom Paint

Hey Gang,

I am looking at a Catalina 22, 1974, that needs bottom paint....and maybe a bit of fibreglass work...

What is the going average ballpark figure for having a shop do the bottom paint for the hull and swing keel?

Debating buying a boat that needs work vs. buying one that does not need work....I can put in some sweat equity, but is/will be my first boat...

Sand and paint the bottom yourself. It''s no big deal on a 22 footer. Depending on the condition of the old paint you should be able to do it in a couple of hours. Leave the fiberglass work to the pros.

when buying a used boat, try to find out the type of bottom paint previously used. this may save you alot of sanding time later because of compatability issues. If you dont know what was used you will have to remove the old stuff completely before re-painting
