Which new radar/plotter?

Finally replacing Furuno 24 with state of the art overlay system radar/plotter/AIS. Narrowing the choice down to Raymarine e125. What say all of you?

Re: Which new radar/plotter?

I'd say Simrad has better technology out right now w/their 3g and 4g broadband radars. But Raymarine has the most advanced "screen sharing" capabilities with ipad and wifi. Garmin is leading on price.

NavNet3D.

Furuno. No where near as intuitive as the rest, but still bullet-proof beyond comparison.

Re: Which new radar/plotter?

I just asked this question of the marine electronics guys at our yard. He likes SimRad, however, says the Furuno is the bullet proof stuff. He also liked that Furuno had a device that would convert wind, speed, etc info from outdated components into modern standard format and has a new touch screen he likes. Says its expensive, however.

Raymarine is the most integrated. He's not generally a big fan, but acknowledged that the modern era has been out for a while and most bugs have been worked out with software upgrades.

Didn't mention Garmin at all, although, its possible he just doesn't sell it.

I think, in the end, I will probably update with Raymarine, when the time comes. I prefer everything from the same manufacturer, to eliminate the finger pointing. When I go for it, I plan to do the full monte, Sat Wx, AIS, etc. May still be a year or two off. Need other surprises to stop.

Jeanneau 54DS

In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair. Margaritas fix everything.
