Installing the Raymarine SPX-5 P70 Wheel Pilot, with Video

This three-part blog entry details my owner installation in June, 2013. Note that the new P70 Control Head is shipped with incorrect installation instructions.

What I like about Raymarine Autopilots is that if you have the control head wired into the wind instruments (NMEA, SeaTalk, etc), then you can hit the AUto + StandBy button to steer to a constant wind direction (ie, 30 degree starboard, or 90 degrees port).

Re: Installing the Raymarine SPX-5 P70 Wheel Pilot, with Video

I recently wired a Raymarine C90W and a X-5 Tiller pilot (pretty much the same as yours, but with the older ST 6002 controller). I first thought about attempting to use seatalk NG but after hearing that I have to build an entire network to simply plug two devices together I went with the old seatalk standard instead.

It's pretty much a joke that you have to supply 12v to the seatalk NG network for it to work. Devices should come with separate 12v inputs and not carry 12v over the data cables...
