Butyl sealing

It appears there is a strong consensus that butyl tape is currently the preferred method of sealing deck hardware.

I was recently at one of my favourite discount/clearance stores and noticed butyl in caulking tubes.

Is this the same stuff, just in a tube, or is it like silicone - a myriad of variations?

You want butyl tape, not the stuff in tubes. It is so much easier and very effective. You'll never go back to tube sealant hell.

Best quality "tape" comes from a vendor name of "Mainesail" and he posts some of the most useful advice that you will find on any sailing site around the 'net.
