Painting Topside

We have a Pearson 323 that has a faded black stripe across each side of the cabin section above the deck, as well as across the front part of the cabin section, i.e., it''s a continuous stripe. We want to paint it (after taping off the area). Can we use a roller? A brush? Or do we have to spray it on? Also - what''s a good type of paint for that? THANKS in advance.

Since this is an area that gets a lot of sun, and it''s black, and you don''t want to have to do it again soon, and you''ll have to tape it off really well anyway, no matter what you paint it with, use a 2 part polyurethane (e.g. Interlux) and apply with a small foam roller. Be sure to get solvent-resistant foam rollers. Follow the directions exactly. It may take two coats, because of the dark color, but may not, since it''s already black underneath. Schedule about two weeks to do it(because of vagaries of the weather - temp., precip, etc.) and it should only take about twice as long as you plan.
