Need an old flag pole hole covered...

Hi All,

The stern has an old 1 1/4" flush mounted flag pole holder that had a big ugly "plug" stuck in it. The PO lived with it... I cannot. Take it out and I have a big hole. Do they make decorative type covers for things like this? I tried to install the new deck mounted flag holder over this hole, but the angle of everything interferes with the stern folding steps. When this was installed probably goes way back. Any suggestions?

Dave

Dave, look in a hardware store. They sell 2"-4" circular plastic plates, designed to cover the hole in the wall where a doorknob has been swinging into it. There are also a variety of plugs and covers for holes from plumbing, electric cord runs, etc. that might work for you.

But I doubt you'd find any in a chandlery.

If the hole is a 'standard' size you might also be able to buy a short piece of acrylic rod from a plastics shop. Glue it in flush, and use it as a decklight to get some light down below.

or if you have access from below you could always rebuild it with FG, a bit of work, but your steps are near a light plug might not be enough
do it once by doing it well

You can use a teak disc cut with a hole saw, and round over the edges with some sand paper. You can buy a piece of teak at West Marine. then mount the new flag holder on top of the teak.

great place to mount a small solar panel on a single pole swivel mount.
