WTF is this?

I was checking out how to remove the head outboard dump pump which is mounted under a shelf above the head when I found this black box with a red button. Can someone please hazard a guess as to what this thing is? It's got wires that run somewhere forward but I don't know exactly where because they disappear under the water tank which is secured in place. I pushed the button and the boat didn't blow up, if that's any clue...

Re: WTF is this?

NSA tracking device. Quick...rip it out and throw your cell phone in the drink.

ETA: Just trace the wires and post back. (Before the black helicopters come for you!)

Re: WTF is this?

Could it be the switch for the dump pump?

The pump is a Whale "Guzzler", manually operated. I'll try to trace the wires tomorrow and post what I find...

Re: WTF is this?

Looks like a self-destruct sequence initiator. Push it and see if a countdown starts.

Good luck.

Re: WTF is this?

I see a fuse holder plus a silver push button or plug coming out of the right side of the box. I would guess a macerator to empty the holding tank overboard? What is the amp rating on the fuse?

Re: WTF is this?

The things that confuse me are the BNC-like connector on the side, and the fact that there is only one cord coming in. Usually you see an input and an output.

Re: WTF is this?

The fact that it is only 1 wire is not confusing. It would only be on the "hot" wire only; if there were 2 cables coming and going, the negative wire would be running behind the switch and not connected to anything anyway. Yea, that BNC connector is puzzling.

Re: WTF is this?

Ahhhh, so you're assuming that's a 2 (or more) conductor cable, and that one is being used for the "input" (source voltage, etc.) and the other is for the "output". I hadn't thought of that.
