Measuring Tool

To use a search engine you have to know what you're looking for, and I don't know the name of the tool I am looking for, please help.

The tool is a dial gauge that you use for measuring the inside diameter of a cylinder when you are doing an engine rebuild. I thought it was a kind of caliper, but now I'm not so sure.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you CaptainForce, but that isn't it. That would be for measuring the outside dimensions of something, what I'm looking would fit inside the cylinder and be used to measure the inside dimension, the bore size.

Edit, unless there are multiple types and I don't know them all, which is very possible.

Re: Measuring Tool

it is an inside caliper, (good) or a micrometer, (Better) or a bore gauge (best).

Re: Measuring Tool

happy to help. It's one of those tools that, unless you are a mechanic, you only need once every few years...but without it, you are SOL.

Re: Measuring Tool

Would the "inside jaws" of a set of calipers work? Everybody should have a pair of calipers. How else you gonna measure really accurate stuff. Unfortunately, modern calipers are all in units of mm or inches and not RCH.
