Opps! I screwed up your advice and started from the bilge.

Maybe the waterline changes a bit when heeled or the wife is standing on the bow?

We plan to mark ours on the inside after painting; when the boat's on the hard, you can use strong magnets to trace around the bootstripe. Need a helper on the inside to trail a pencil & hop over bulkheads.

I like the strong magnet idea Bob.

If the weather is just right and there are small wavelets hitting the side of your hull you can put your ear to the FRP and hear where the wave sound is loudest.

Faster's thru hull hose idea is easier though.

In extreme desperation you could open a through hull and flood the cabin up to the water line (you'll know when you see it). Then drain it all out and carefully trace the high water line and clean up your boat. ;-!)

In the factory we used bright light for quality control. If you are looking in a localized area of the hull (near the head?) a strong flashlight in a ziploc against the hull could work.

Shut the seacock. Disconnect the hose from head. hold hose up . Open valve. lower hose till water flows. Voila!
