Rigid vang seized

So my rigid vang is a little too rigid, it's seized. It's a spring type one, can't see the manufacturer on the label. Anyway, other than liberal applications of a penetrating lubricant and the occasional engineering tap with a 4lb club hammer, any other suggestions for un-seizing it? I figure the end cap must unscrew somehow as I can't see any retaining pins so perhaps if I can get that off then I can dismantle the whole thing and see if it's worth saving.

Post a pic, someone may recognize the brand and have an idea of how it comes apart...

It may also be jammed: the sleeves enclosing the tackle (the "rigid" part) may have gotten overextended, so they're not sliding in & out exactly parallel, the way they're supposed to. Ours does this on occasion. A gentle tap in the right direction gets them back in line so that they telescope again.

I'd like to install a rigid vang (not a boomkicker) on my 24 Mirage. Any suggestions?

Hard to go wrong with Garhauer, price quality and especially custom touches seem to be their specialty.

Garhauer, yes - so far mine has resisted all my attempts to break it ;)

May I suggest some "engineered tapping" with a larger hammer. Haha
You'll probably have to take it off and mess with it.

It's in my shed at the moment. I might just have to rig a line one.

Aha! A few engineering taps and it's moved a bit, of course I can't get the piston out again now, but I have at least managed to get some penetrating fluid behind the piston seal etc so might free up eventually.
